United States Election Assistance Commission Selects BPro Built System as 2019 Clearinghouse Award Recipient
VoteWA Project Selected for Outstanding Innovations in Elections
The U.S. Election Assistance Commission (EAC) announced the Washington Secretary of State’s Office received a 2019 Clearinghouse Award for best practices in election administration, also known as a “Clearie” Award. The VoteWA Project received the Outstanding Innovations in Elections Clearie Award for providing “a secure environment for the state’s voter data and other elections information.”
In 2018, BPro was unanimously selected by Washington state and county elections officials to build the new VoteWA system, which includes voter registration, election management, online voter registration, candidate filing, and election night reporting. BPro has successfully built and deployed similar TotalVote® systems in five other states.
The VoteWA system also includes a Geo-enabled address management software solution to help elections officials assign voters to the correct districts and precinct. TotalAddress™ uses latitude and longitude to assign voters as points on a map and ultimately helps ensure each voter receives the correct ballot on Election Day. The TotalAddress system will also be a valuable resource in ensuring the accuracy of voter registration rolls after the 2020 Census and subsequent redistricting process.
VoteWA was successfully used as the statewide voter registration and election management system in the 2019 Primary and General Elections. These were the first elections Washington law allowed for Same Day Voter Registration and the VoteWA system provided the interoperability among state and county election offices to ensure the new law was successfully implemented. The Secretary of State’s Office believes the VoteWA project will “save taxpayer dollars, reduce data management time for local election officials, increase confidence in election security, and enable a number of process efficiencies.”
Established by the Help America Vote Act of 2002 (HAVA), the EAC is charged with serving as a clearinghouse for election administration information. To uphold this, the EAC launched the Clearies in 2016 to promote best election practices.
